Cheese arepas

Ingredients

• 2 cups pre-cooked corn flour (masarepa)Find in the shop →
• 2½ cups warm water, 1 tsp saltFind in the shop →
• 200 g white cheese (queso blanco or costeño)Find in the shop →
• Butter or oilFind in the shop →
• Or ready-made arepas to reheatFind in the shop →

Method

1. Mix the warm water and salt, add the flour little by little and knead into a smooth dough; rest 5 minutes.
2. Add half the grated cheese to the dough (optional).
3. Shape 8 balls and flatten into 1.5 cm thick cakes.
4. Cook in a buttered pan over medium heat 6 to 8 minutes per side, until they sound hollow.
5. Split on the side, fill with cheese and serve hot.
